Overview
The team and the role of commercial analyst was poorly described, and also as the team we worked in were allocated without our preference. Therefore, the Team I was allocated was a very specific niche area and an activity which was not the reasons to why I applied here. I was hence not able to develop the skills I was more keen on developing and I was unable to expand my knowledge in the sector of energy was interested in. Also when applying it was not written that the internship is fully online which was a big surprise when I was told such fact when receiving the offer. However apart from the team I was allocated that was irrelevant to application, I was given a lot of responsibilities and exposure, and kept busy the whole time, I had daily tasks to do every day and weeks, I was also given a large project to work on.
Skills
As mentioned previously I developed skills which are not the ones I was keen on expanding and that correlate with my career interest. But I developed my communication skills by talking to engineers and different stakeholders. Also developed my data analysis skills but was quite simple since I was only using pivot tables, so I did no reinforce to a high level any of my data skills and my coding skills such as python or excel which was a shame.
Responsibilities
I was given a significant amount of responsibility in my internship, I had to determine areas of improvement for installations of smart meters and then develop recommendations. I also had to compute weekly performance reports sent to stakeholders.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support ad guidance in this intern, which was something I appreciated a lot. My team was very supportive and also the HR team were very supportive when I needed help.
Culture
I really enjoyed the company culture and atmosphere, particularly everyone's amicability and approachably.
Your Impressions
I was not particularly interested in the team I was given, which was a shame as we could not say any preference, and the activity was very specific. Therefore I felt like the commercial awareness I developed are not associated to the energy market, which is what I was motivated to learn and was written in the job description. Apart from the activity I was given the culture an workplace I really enjoyed and were very welcoming, and the team members were very supportive.
Yes
I would raise their awareness that the commercial analyst role has a lot of different activities and to be prepared to be in a team that is not related to the energy market.
