Overview
My role was fairly data driven and complex. I was tasked with finding patterns in large data sets. Within the role I worked remotely and also within the office two days a week which was really beneficial. I was tasked with looking at performance and providing recommendation's to senior people in the business. The role was challenging and the responsibility was challenging but the suppourt networks within my role helped me to succeed within Centrica.
Skills
I have developed my numerical skills more than anything. I was given access to any data set I required and this was extremely complex so using software such as power Bi and Excel which helped me in my work. The internship also taught me a lot about my own confidence as I was pushed every single day. Communication skills and Business acumen were also massively developed, being able to be a part of a corporate environment was super interesting.
Responsibilities
This is what shocked me the most about the placement. From the get go you were given access to everything and the responsibility to actually plan your own day. The company trusted our ideas and that was massively helpful and as part of my role, the company trusted me to run a full day training workshop with senior team leaders so I could share my ideas.
Support & Guidance
The recruitment team were there to suppourt us all the time and this was super helpful. The teams we were put in were on hand to guide us at every opportunity we needed it and we even had current graduates to guide us throughout the whole placement.
Culture
Centrica has a fantastic culture, the company really appreciated the interns and wanted to hear from us. Even the CEO took time out of his day to speak to us and let us ask all of our burning questions. The company cared about our safety but pushed us to do more each day whilst checking on our wellbeing.
Your Impressions
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and I would love the chance to do it all again. The knowledge I have learnt is invaluable and it supported my personal development but also provided me the stepping stones into my professional career.
Yes
I would suggest others to take each step of the recruitment process slowly and do there research on the core values and culture at Centrica. This is super important to anyone at Centrica and even after being here for just 9 weeks this was noticeable.
