Overview
Global Marketing Assistant- Assisting in various tasks across all CBS's regions. Primarily worked on customer segmentation and data enrichment looking at our clients and figuring how best to cater to them in the future. Producing account maps and using LinkedIn Sales Navigator and ZoomInfo. Also creating videos for social media using Wibbitz. Also working with the digital team on competitor analysis. Focussed around sustainability messaging and contact us pages. Presenting these projects back to managers.
Skills
Soft Skill: Self confidence through presenting to managers and becoming knowledgeable in an area. Multitasking and time management working to coordinate various deadlines and the expectations of different people. Prioritising projects and managing time to ensure everything is finished on time. Commercial Awareness- learning more about the business world, communicating on teams, via email, etiquette in the office etc. Hard skills such as exposure to Excel, Wibbitz, LinkedIN, ZoomInfo, Powerpoint, Word, Teams. These are all valuable skills.
Responsibilities
I was given responsibility within my team but still felt supported and as if i hadn't just been left to my own devices. It is one of the things I have been most surprised by the amount of impact interns are able to have within the centrica community. I was pleasantly surprised that the work we have been doing will actually be used to inform change and make a difference to the business in the future.
Support & Guidance
We have received support through many channels. We have James and Sarah as the early talent HR board who we have been in contact with throughout the entire process and who are always so so friendly and helpful if you had any enquiries at any point of the placement. We have also had grad buddies who are their for more casual support and grad talent managers who are more specialist to the stream and answering questions to do with specific jobs.
Culture
Centrica has surprised me massively with the community across interns, HR, grads, my team and the wider community. Everyone i reached out to were really generous with their time and willing to help whether to do with the job, future career or just for a friendly chat. The interns have all been amazing as well- it is really clear that Centrica just hire nice people, I've not had a bad experience with anyone during my time.
Your Impressions
I have had a really insightful summer and have learnt lots of valuable skills and lessons that will help me in the future. I think working from home is definitely a challenge and makes it a bit more difficult to find sosial opportunities and to understand the wider company structure as you don't get to see other people interacting in the office. I think i would have enjoyed the summer more had we been working from the office.
Yes
I would definitely encourage others to apply. The advice i would give would be to network from the outset and reach out to people across the whole company wether you think you want to remain in Centrica or not as everyone is really willing to give advice in more genereal careers and it is a good opportunity to explore the roles within a business that aren't always obvious from the outside looking in to the business.
