Overview
I was a project manager within the Change Delivery team - a part of British Gas Services & Solutions. I communicated with stakeholders to check the progress of their actions and deliverables, and updated the project governance documents accordingly. Furthermore, I engaged in data analysis on the side to examine the shortfalls of British Gas call centres and where improvements can be made. Led sections of workstream update meetings.
Skills
I have learned how to professionally communicate with stakeholders while extracting relevant information. I had to lead sections in meetings with 15-20 people. I analysed NPS data for call centres and drew trends from them. I learned new software such as Microsoft Office and ServiceNow. I learned flexibility and adaptation through project demands changing.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given a lot of ownership and autonomy over the projects I managed, and use of initiative and individual thinking was encouraged
Support & Guidance
The support from my managers was excellent - they were quick and thorough in their responses to any questions they had, and kept me busy while still promoting a healthy work-life balance.
Culture
The company culture was very friendly, welcoming and egalitarian. I was encouraged to reach out to senior members of the Change Delivery team to talk about their roles, and all of them were more than happy to talk to me despite being busy. As an intern, I felt I was genuinely valued and seen as a full-time employee.
Your Impressions
Overall I have really enjoyed my time here. The company and the people were all some kind and helpful, I was taken seriously and valued, the work I was given had genuine purpose and use for the business, the pay was good and expense system very generous, and work-life balance was very healthy.
Yes
Don't be afraid to explore roles beyond what you're assigned from the get-go if you're interested in them. People will be more than happy to talk to you about it and you can spend the summer exploring potential new interests.
