Overview
I was working within the Hive heating team as a part of the product team. This involved me analysing the different products we used an looking at the competitors feature development to make sure we stay competitive. My day to day revolved around team meetings, a few hours of independent working time, occasional breaks for lunch and a bit of air, and then a session of self reflection at the end of the day for personal growth.
Skills
I have improved my excel and power bi skills - hard skills which involves data processing and presentation. I have also improved my team work by competing in a charity challenge which was highly enjoyable. I have also improved my presentation skills by completing 2 end of placement presentations. Finally, i also improved my organisation skills by needing to juggle multiple job commitments, my charity commitments, as well as completing a volunteering day within my placement.
Responsibilities
I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement. We were given full autonomy in our groups to run a detailed awareness campaign for our charity challenge. I was also given a lot of responsibility in the team through in meeting presentations and completing important tasks for the team.
Support & Guidance
I was given a significant amount of support during my internship. My line manger was very supportive with my work and the whole wider team always open and free for a call to help my development. As well as this, the grad and intern friendships i made were so beneficial to my role. The buddy system was also a really useful method of guidance and support. Finally, the support from the early careers team was amazing throughout the placement as well as before the placement and all the assessment process.
Culture
The company culture is amazing. Everybody is so supportive and will always have time for you to network and ask questions. The volunteering initiative also showed the people focus of the company.
Your Impressions
I massively enjoyed my placement. It was very insightful, interesting, and the atmosphere around the company is amazing. I couldnt recommend centrica as a workplace more
Yes
I would say be yourself, throw yourself in, never be afraid to ask questions, and never come in with ego since everybody is in the same boat and will support you if you show the right attitude to learn from the get go
