Overview
I have been working with my team to keep track of ASPS via region and sub region, partially by collating information from excel spreadsheets to highlight important data in graphs to bring awareness to regions with higher costs to the business and the specific ASPS which have contributed to these costs. I have worked on various tasks from keeping track of an action log to show which actions are being put in place and when, to working on a pricing change for scale reducers.
Skills
I have developed my teamworking skills from working in team sport environments and work in pubs and sports camps to work in a commercial setting. This has also developed my commercial awareness in addition to organisation and time management, especially when I have had multiple tasks to do in a short amount of time. Working on projects like the pricing change developed my problem solving skills, and my end of placement presentation has really helped with my presentation skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given the task of self managing and being able to prioritise my own tasks and work. I got into contact with a Heating Sales Advisor myself to arrange a day in field which was really invaluable to gain more of an understanding of the end to end process. I was in charge of leading a project in which I worked with 2 grads to pull together key information around ASPS for a powerpoint to be presented to a wider board of managers.
Support & Guidance
I received plenty of support. I found that everyone in the company was very approachable and very much showed that Centrica does work to meet its values. People were understanding, easy to speak to, and helpful in explaining things I was not initially clear on, such as all of the acronyms I grew to be accustomed to. I had regular reviews of my performance with my manager, as well as with a few of the grads.
Culture
The company culture was very welcoming, and I felt very appreciated by the business. My manager told me at the end of my placement that the wider team had never questioned who I was and just accepted me and appreciated my work as part of the team. The general atmosphere was really enjoyable, however I would have liked if I could have come into the office more, to make the most of Centrica's people.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement/internship, I feel as if I have had such a good opportunity to get stuck in with the boiler installs team and have been able to develop such valuable skills which I can bring back to university to help me with my degree. I have enjoyed the fact that I have been given such a great amount of responsibility in the tasks I've been doing and liked that I have been able to grow my leadership skills as a result.
Yes
I would advise others to definitely apply as Centrica is such a great business to work with, not only because of its values and great people, but also its variety of work. I think that I would advise others to reach out to as many people across the business as they can to gain an insight into a many of the areas Centrica has to offer and to push themselves out of their comfort zones to help them grow.
