Overview
Daily tasks involve valuing scheme pensions, working on client projects, participating in business unit meetings, job shadowing seniors and getting involved in client meetings.
Skills
I got to learn and develop my excel skills, as well as learning about data analysis. I learnt about pension valuations, accounting and alot on how asset and liability valuations affect clients. I learnt about working with colleagues and managing client work, as well as getting the opportunity to learn more about what senior and junior actuaries do on a day to day basis. I got the opportunity to further develop my teamworking skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was was responsible for doing many different important pieces of work, with a good mix of both client work and internal work. Any work I did was then reviewed to insure there were no issues.
Support & Guidance
During the internship I received a lot of support with everyone being very open to answering any questions or just helping out in my day to day tasks. Everyone was very understanding and open, making for a very welcoming work environment.
Culture
The company culture was amazing with an extremely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. There was never a time where I felt out of place or like I didn't belong. The company values a culture of openness and understanding, placing a high value on their employees wellbeing.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship with it exceeding all my expectations. I enjoyed feeling like I was part of a team and getting to know all my colleagues. I enjoyed learning more about the pensions world, getting involved with client work and participating in research projects. I also enjoyed the social aspect of the internship and getting to know colleagues outside the workplace with activities like boardgames night or the summer party.
