Overview
In the Coverage team I gave a presentation on the different products the bank offered, and prepared a strategy paper on the green transition of the transport sector. I also produced various memos on prospective and existing clients, identifying opportunities for the bank to help. In ESFO, I helped with various deals, writing up parts of the credit papers. In addition, I produced a presentation on renewables in Ireland and one on battery storage technologies.
Skills
I learnt much more about the financial world and banking sector, as well as skills such as how to read financial statements. I was also able to improve my networking skills through the various coffee chats we were encouraged to have with people across the bank. I also improved my presentation skills due to the various presentations I gave, including one where we pitched MUFG's products to a prospective client.
Responsibilities
I was given responsibility to identify potential clients and the areas in which the bank could help them. In addition, I helped with work on various live deals in Project Finance.
Support & Guidance
A lot - both my line managers were great and always willing to help me. The teams in general were very welcoming and friendly and always happy to answer my questions. In addition, I reached out to various people across the bank to learn more about what they did and found that they were all willing to sit down with my for 30 - 45 minutes and explain their roles and their own experiences.
Culture
Very friendly and always willing to answer any questions. There were many events held for the interns and the graduates, as well as some charity initiatives.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. The culture was fantastic and really allowed me to expand my knowledge and my skills. I was not expecting to get so much out of the internship, especially with regards to improving my presentation skills and networking and meeting people across the bank. I would seriously consider taking a grad role here.
Yes
Don't be intimidated if you don't have a background in finance, just read the news and show yourself to positive and keen to learn. You'll learn so much on the job and by talking to various people.
