Overview
Rotated between teams and clients, completing various audit tasks
Skills
Accountancy, financial statement analysis, excel
Responsibilities
Undertook work on real, live client engagements.
Support & Guidance
Mixed, depended on what team you were in- some teams were very helpful and supportive others saw you as a burden
Culture
Claimed to have this unique, vibrant culture. In reality, the office was dead and quiet. Even though you worked in teams, people communicated virtually or barely spoke with one another.
Your Impressions
Personally I did not enjoy the internship finding the work mundane and boring, often sitting by myself with little team interaction. The office itself is pretty cool and modern but is generally empty around 3/5 days a week and often quiet. If you are more concerned with work-life balance, then BDO is good because it is generally 9.30-5.30 but the work is not stimulating and the pay is not great (30k pa in London and less at other offices, I think around 23.5k).
No
Interviews are focussed on values and behaviour, do not worry too much about technical questions. Be sociable and inquisitive to get the most out of the internships. If you are interested in audit, BDO is one of the better firms to look at as they have a mix of clients and though the culture and atmosphere is not as great as preached, it is likely better than the big 4 in that respect.
