Overview
Complete testing of samples picked by the team to see if the transactions that the company records are genuine and accurate.
Skills
Learned lots of Excel skills as a lot of the work is done on Excel.
Responsibilities
Yes, quite a lot of responsibility for the work you were carrying out. However, there was more than enough support available should you struggle to complete certain tasks.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support and guidance from people of all different hierarchical grades. The environment was very supportive.
Culture
As mentioned, very supportive. People are very friendly and as a lot of the work is done in teams, you work closely with your seniors and their seniors too.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy many aspects of the internship, including travelling to client sites and working from both Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. The methodology of the work is enjoyable, although audit in general can be rather repetitive and dull.
Yes
Be aware of what the values and wider purpose of BDO are as they are an important aspect of the selection process. This is certainly a good thing as all those with whom I worked, I could tell did subscribe to them and this meant that the environment and culture was very supportive and it was easy to build relationships with people who share those values.
