Overview
6 week Summer internship. This was a hybrid role, where it was up to me how I split my time but going in meant increasing my interactions and learning more. The first week consisted of online training: learning about tax and the company values. I met the team when I went into the office. Work involved tax compliance, a transfer pricing project and admin tasks. I reported to my people manager and worked closely with others.
Skills
I learnt many new skills. I did not have a background in tax so learnt a lot from the internal training and resources available. Mostly it was about corporate tax, but I also gained a grounding in other types of tax. I learnt how to use the software the company used for documentation and tax work. I developed my personal skills from working closely with the team.
Responsibilities
I was initially involved in more admin tasks but through gaining exposure I learnt lots and was able to contribute meaningfully. I got involved in client work.
Support & Guidance
A good level of support received from both the bdo Early in careers team and the office that I worked with.
Culture
Friendly and welcoming. Worked on Coporate social responsibility project and had team meetings to create a good atmosphere. Diversity initiatives are widely promoted
Your Impressions
Very enjoyable - better than I expected which I believe is down to the people I worked with.
Yes
BDO is a very welcoming company and although the application process is daunting and long, relax and just be yourself.
