Overview
My role involves to gain exposure of the team I have been placed in and understand the business requirements of the team and how they are being fulfilled by the tech team. On top of this throughout my internship I attended events which gave me more insight about the bank. I worked on an individual project using the tools and technology stack the team uses. I gained valuable feedback from my manager throughout the course.
Skills
I learnt a new language called React. React has been a great web app developing application to get a hold of during my project. I gained teamwork and project management skills by getting introduced to Jira. I have learnt a lot about the banking sector and the financial world through my training done in the start of the internship.
Responsibilities
Yes, I had to create some mockups of the user cases for the team which had to be presented to the business. On top of this I prepared two proposals for potential improvements in the existing application that the team uses. I was attending the Scrum meetings and standups every week and was actively involved in the discussions.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance I received throughout is very much appreciated. My line manager has been an excellent guide and someone who is easily approachable to discuss my goals and the areas I would like to get experience from. The teammates have been very helpful by clearing any doubts and have been very friendly from the start.
Culture
The company promotes diversity and has taken active steps to set an example. I could see people from different ethnicity/background/education/gender and sextual orientation being seen equally and treated with respect. Deutsche conducted a CSR day for the interns. We interacted with school kids from a poor locality in London which was fun. The bank provided us with with a cheap gym membership as well.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed every bit of my journey. Starting from the training week to ending it with finishing 2 projects the experience has been very good to get exposed to the banking sector. The culture of the company is very open and inclusive. The teams are very supportive and aspire for innovation. I would like to return.
Yes
Be confident throughout the hiring process. Try to research about the division you are interested in working for. Follow with examples when you talk about a certain skill you are good at. Don't overthink about the outcome, things not always work as planned and adjusting to the new hurdles is the way forward.
