The Role
I couldn't have dreamed up a better placement. Working in Quality & Food Safety, I was at the interface of many departments including operations, factory, technical and consumers.
I was treated as a company associate, rather than a student from day 1
Everytime I sought guidance and advice, I was greeted with a willingness to help.
As with many jobs, there were some intense periods along with quiter ones. I was given the freedom however to take on as many new projects as I felt capable of doing.
As I progressed through the year, I started becoming the "go-to" person for certain information. I always had full responsibility and accountability for any work that I did, which gave a real sense of ownership.
I now really valuable experience in change management, project management and data analysis - all of which will allow me to take on future projects with that much more confidence during university and beyond.
The Company
Very willing, very light hearted, busy and hard working.
Nicely structured in the beginning and then lef to me to organise myself. There was always help available if I felt lost.
I was treated as a long term member of the team and received the same training and bonus as the rest of the company associates.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
Mars is my top choice for a graduate job - I will be applying to the graduate scheme without hesitation.
The Culture
Lots of opportunity to meet with the other placement students. The events after the initial induction had to be organised outside the company.
Depends where you go of course. Maidenhead and London can be expensive. Parts of Slough and Reading less so.
I lived in West London during my placement, so that is where I spent most of my nighlife. London is brilliant.
Yes, particularly on the volunteering front. I joined badminton and football clubs very early on and they are both well organised and attended.
