    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting the team in their efforts with clients. Days can range from providing pricing and information to clients in powerpoint, to longer days where you are working in longer projects. The days are never really the same, and the tasks, whilst having the same purpose of supporting clients, change every day

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop my excel and Bloomberg skills whilst on this internship. There are also other 'soft skills' such as personal speaking, communication with team members and attention to detail that have improved dramatically over the internship.

  • How would you rate the training provided during your experience?

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • At the beginning you are tested as to where your level of ability lays, and once you have proven yourself by not making mistakes and producing consistent work you are then given more responsibility. For example, I was given responsibility of preparing a full presentation for a client meeting and I was also given a long term project of preparing analysis on bridge financings in M&A activity since 2008.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The team could not have been better at providing help throughout the internship. They are willing to let you go off by yourself to complete tasks but you are able to reach back out to them for further guidance. On a career side, everyone is keen to help you decide what you want to pursue going forward and they all know what you are going through as you were once in their shoes.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture of MUFG is second to none from where I have worked. The people at the firm are great and all are willing to take time out of their busy days to talk to you. As a Japanese firm, there are Japanese values built into the working life, with a lot of respect shown between colleagues, no matter where you rank in the business.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • After completing a placement at UBS prior to this internship, I can say that I have enjoyed this one more. Maybe it is the work that I was given and the culture of the firm, but it has been thoroughly enjoyable and the experience has made me want to work at the firm in the future.

  • 7. Would you recommend MUFG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to MUFG
  • When applying to MUFG I would recommend that you know the values of the firm. These are held in high stead and are followed well in the firm. I would also touch up on the CSR initiatives that the firm runs and in general just make sure that you come across as outgoing and personable, this stuff is harder to teach than the technical skills required for the job
