Overview
I worked within an sector themed research team, focusing on producing research for equities within this sector both on a singular level and a thematic level. Day to day the role consisted of financial modelling, presenting ideas, creating research and following movements in publicly traded equities.
Skills
Financial modelling skills have improved a great deal. Alongside presenting skills, both virtually and in person. In addition to these, note taking and writing skills have improved to focus on the most important points and write in a concise manner.
Responsibilities
Yes, we had the opportunity to produce individual presentations on our work and present these. Then you are given an individual project which you do in tandem with the group work which is more collaborative. These individual aspects give you more chance to take on responsibility.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance structure at the company is great, everyone is given 3 points of contact across the department, which they can speak to at any point with issues. The HR department at the firm is also very visible and supportive.
Culture
The company culture is great, there is a real team atmosphere where everyone sets high standards for each other and collectively work together to produce excellent work. All employees are willing to help interns, offering advice on work and non-work issues, this creates a company wide support network.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the 9 weeks of the internship, I feel it offers a great balance between seeing if you enjoy the work whilst also developing your own skills. From the presentations and projects to the desk work, the 9 weeks have been really productive and my financial skillset & knowledge base has increased a great deal.
Yes
Make sure to show that you have a real passion for the industry, show that you are humble and mature and always willing to learn.
