Overview
The internship was 9 weeks in total of which the first week was an online training. Then it was followed by two 4 week rotations, one on a financing desk and the other on a flow desk. During the rotations I had the chance to speak to people on the desk and several other desks as well to learn about their role and network. I could also complete smaller tasks to help the team.
Skills
I learnt a lot about financial markets but most importantly how to filter the relevant information and form a view. The internship also gave the opportunity to push myself as much out of my comfort zone as I wanted to, and so I could develop my time management skills as well. Additionally, I could improve my social/networking skills as the internship's provided endless opportunities to network.
Responsibilities
The amount of responsibility given mainly depended on the desk's business and how busy they were at the time.
Support & Guidance
Interns had several people assigned to them who they could turn to for support with varying seniority and job function, but it was up to the intern how much they use these connections.
Culture
Incredibly welcoming, open and supportive.
Your Impressions
The internship was fun and an invaluable learning experience at the same time. I am really glad I could join this programme.
Yes
Be curious and do not be afraid to not know something, the main point is to learn. Additionally, take advantage of every opportunity to network, because these people are not just among the best in what they do but are also open, unique and interesting.
