Overview
Projects Included: ∙Delivering Social Media workshops for different teams in my department. ∙Analysing online conferences to discover insights to improve the experience for clients. ∙Creating several videos to promote the offerings (from use case videos to product launch videos). ∙Organising events which aimed to educate the entire department. ∙Running webinars that aimed to upskill clients.
Skills
I've developed skills within the Adobe Suite such as Illustrator, Premier Pro and Acrobat. I have also greatly increased my B2B Sales knowledge including how to research a client, understand their needs and effectively pitch them a solution that meets these needs.
Responsibilities
Yes, at IBM you are (on the whole) treated like any other IBMer, not an "intern."
Support & Guidance
I had a foundation manager who was responsible for my wellbeing within the company. I could speak to them regarding any issues I'm having from a broken laptop to my mental health. I also had a task manager who was responsible for giving me projects and roles to complete over my internship.
Culture
Varied. In the consulting arm of the company it's very "Googley" in the sense that they have no smart dress code, bean bags, ping pong tables etc. and then in the mainframe side of the company, it's like stepping back into what I imagine being the 50s/60s work environment - very linear and less agile.
Your Impressions
IBM is a company that is definitely changing with a new culture and youth DNA coming in. However, there still remains the parts of "Big Blue" whereby you're shackled by line managers or everything is wrapped in tape. I enjoyed it, but wish I was within one of these newer sides of IBM.
No
Get skilled up on technical skills. I study a business degree but definitely wish I had an idea about coding or how machines work. Even if you're going into marketing for example, it massively helps.
