Overview
My role as operations placement student consisted of supporting one of the three autonomous production departments within the plant. I was assigned to the plastic injection department. I worked closely with the Methods Engineer with standardized work, and the Process Engineer with programming and manufacturing processes. I provided support on the shop floor when needed, and mainly focused on driving improvement and innovation around my department and my plant. I was assigned multiple projects and given the freedom to design and test solutions myself.
Skills
I feel much more confident and secure in my skills compared to how I was at the start of the year. This confidence was built up through the many challenges I faced during my placement. I gained both technical (Google Apps Script coding and development, Microsoft VBA coding, BricsCAD, SEPRO Robot programming, ALTAIR Laser programming and editing) and transferrable skills (problem-solving skills, team working, communication and interpersonal skills) throughout my time. The knowledge and experience I have gained during my time here will definitely help me in my future career aspirations and goals.
Responsibilities
All the projects I was involved in required a lot of leadership initiative from myself. I was often involved with working with shop floor staff and leading them in certain workshops and activities. I was also involved with a lot of critical work which focused on changes needed and improvements around the department, due to the launch of new projects. This helped me gain autonomy and responsibility as well as helping me to integrate into the business more efficiently.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of incredible support from my team. Everyone was always willing to help and guide me, which lead to me being comfortable enough to take risks and make mistakes. I learned something valuable from everyone I've worked with, and each member of my team has been invaluable to my professional development.
Culture
Very supportive and productive.
Your Impressions
