Overview
- Managed my own project. - Helping with the team's workload through literature reviews, writing and reviewing reports. - Helping with/ creating/ presenting presentations for different audiences. - Attending placement activities. - Attending company wide and external calls.
Skills
- Presenting for different audiences. - Office politics. - The importance of networking. - Managing skills. - Collaboration skills. - Greatly built up my scientific knowledge and applied the university learnt knowledge.
Responsibilities
Definitely - being given my own project to manage I have felt and been treated like an actual employee with plenty of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
My manager and my team has been of great support. The placement team was also a big support pillar. Overall, everyone is happy to help.
Culture
As a tobacco company, the people working are quirky and it does not feel formal all the time. The company culture is pleasant to work in, with open and friendly people, never making you feel underestimated because you are a student. Although they encourage a non-hierarchical format, the hierarchy is still there - if you would like to advance in a company throughout years, BAT is a good place to do that.
Your Impressions
I think it was the best choice both personally and professionally to have done a placement year here!
Yes
Be prepared and professional for the interview stages and don't forget to smile. Don't neglect the video interview and prepare for it (make sure you have a nice and neat background behind). It's not that hard to get accepted as long as you are kin to work here, have some idea what you are talking about and are a decent human being.
