Overview
Day starts at 9am with a daily stand up meeting. Spend rest of the day attending meetings e.g. planning, ways of working, doing 10 week project.
Skills
I have learnt about the software that Tesco uses in the day to day work, and how large scale operations are completed. I have also developed softer skills such as more confident presenting as well as improving my network.
Responsibilities
I was given a rough outline of what was expected from my project, without much supervision on the specifics. They trust you with being able to do what is needed, and are very approachable if you need help.
Support & Guidance
Whenever I became stuck or needed help accessing new technology, my manager was always available for support as well as other people from within the team.
Culture
It's a very business-casual culture leaning towards casual. Dress code is very laced, and this leads to a very accepting and welcoming atmosphere in office. There isn't any logging of hours etc
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first job in a corporate business and was eye opening seeing the differences between my university course and what actually happens in actuality.
Yes
Be yourself, and don't try to be the perfect candidate. At the end of the day, to make the most of an internship at Tesco, you don't want to just present yourself as someone the business is looking for, you also want to make sure Tesco is for you. If your values and culture don't match, then you may find your time would be better suited elsewhere.
