Overview
Assist colleagues in work such as individual member pension calculations, factor review, basis update, funding update, investment update, email drafts etc.
Skills
Besides learning a lot of pensions related knowledge through structured training and everyday work, there are various opportunities to develop soft skills such as communication skills with client (both in-person and via email), building rapport with the client team etc.
Responsibilities
Most of the work that the interns were involved in are actual client work, which allows you to really understand clients and learn pensions specific knowledge
Support & Guidance
There was plenty of support and guidance given - clear instructions were given for each piece of work, and everyone was very willing to talk through the work or answer any questions that are present
Culture
The company culture is very people-oriented, not just in terms of clients but also in terms of emphasis on personal development and team rapport within the office. People were all really friendly and approachable
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship as not only was I able to understand what an actuary does, there were plenty of opportunities to explore what work everyone was involved in. The friendly atmosphere, reasonable working hours and hybrid working setting made the working experience very pleasant
