Overview
- Attending meetings with different stakeholders - Working with excel models to look at future forecasts (project specific) - Internal and external research - Presentation to various people
Skills
- Developing an excel model - Clear communication skills, especially for difficult topics - Resilience in dealing with unexpected situations - Internal training courses that go through trading basics - Courage to reach out and speak to different people around the office (for help or for general discussions) - Learning meeting practices - Presentation skills to a group of professionals - Being resourceful by connecting with people, and using internal and external resources to gather information and insights
Responsibilities
A lot of responsibilities were given during the internship. I was given full autonomy of a project that was up and coming and had many managers involved in this, thus my internship involved a lot of meetings with these managers where my input was well-received. I was also brought into meetings with other stakeholders, which allowed me to gain valuable insight into the business.
Support & Guidance
- Very supportive line manager who constantly checked up on my progress - Good support system of buddies and intern families to build your comfort levels and confidence in the workplace - People and Culture team (HR) were very involved with helping us integrate well into the workplace - General attitude from colleagues towards interns was very positive, and there is always a willingness to help out
Culture
- Many events held for interns across the UK to help us build connections and learn more about different roles - Attended a conference which had a great atmosphere - a mixture of both learning and having fun - Good working hours, encouraged to maximise efficiency during work hours as we very rarely work over-time - Supportive colleagues who are always willing to give a helping hand
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the work I was given, the amount of autonomy it allowed me even in such a big company. The team was very encouraging and was always caring about what I was up to, and what help I needed. My summer internship has definitely exceeded expectations, and I would be more than happy to come back.
