Overview
My main role on site was to support my HSE manager and team alongside ensuring safety is put first at the plant while manufacturing our products. I was responsible for PPE control, trainings and inductions, updating daily/weekly/monthly indicators, and investigating into accidents or incidents within the factory. Along with this I was given responsibility of HSE communications and completing/creating audits to be conducted on the shopfloor.
Skills
I had the chance to improve my communication and presentation skills tremendously. This led to me strengthening my confidence within the role and when meeting new people. Through data reporting, my excel skills have been improved and even my written skills have been shaped to be more concise - helping achieve tasks more efficiently.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was given more and more responsibility as time went on to avoid making me overwhelmed when joining the company and this role. Throughout my time here, I began to become more confident creating my own projects and taking initiative on them with independent leadership.
Support & Guidance
My manager has been my main support since starting my role here. She's always made it clear that if I had any questions, I could go to her. She was very calm and didn't get angry or stressed when trying to show me something new that was taking some more time for me to understand.
Culture
The company culture was good. It could be better at times. Of course, changing shift patterns and the time of year influenced people's attitudes. It would have been nice to see a closer relationship with some of the office staff and shopfloor operators.
Your Impressions
This placement opportunity was definitely a year to remember. I grew a lot, personally and professionally and these skills and lessons I have learned here will help me in my future career steps. Everyone is very opened to teaching you new things and act as support once you leave the company.
Yes
Come in with an opened mind and an attitude to learn. Always use energy and enthusiasm when you're working. Don't be shy and don't hesitate to ask questions.
