Overview
First couple weeks are training heavy on the terminology you will hear and the software you will be using day to day. You learn the manual processes of the calculations. After this you will get client work involving doing these calculations using software and drafting up reports and newsletters that will be sent out to clients. You don't do exactly the same thing each day.
Skills
Using excel everyday helps develop your technical skills here, there is a research project and presentation as part of the internship which develops team working and communication skills. Opportunity to develop your public speaking.
Responsibilities
Not a shadowing internship! Lots of opportunities to get involved in actual work and you have to be proactive in asking for help where needed and everyone is happy to provide this.
Support & Guidance
You are given a buddy and most of your questions will go to them and they provide you with a lot of guidance. Everyone is happy to answer your questions though.
Culture
Everyone very friendly, not always that many in the office due to home working becoming more popular but when people are in is nice that everyone sits together on their break.
Your Impressions
Very glad that I did it, great experience if considering an actuarial job. Only thing that may worry people is its in summer so can get fomo if all your friends aren't working/doing an internship.
Yes
Be honest and open in your interview. Make sure you do some research around the company and current pensions news before the interview. The first couple weeks are quite tiring if you aren't used to 9 - 5, but you'll soon get used to it!
