Overview
I got involved in a number of projects during the placement, from drafting clients' actuarial reports, calculating CETVs and calculating GMP equalisation adjustments for the AC team, to drafting clients' investment monitoring reports and asset transfer requests for the IC team. Additionally, I had to give two presentations and complete an assessed written task. There were also lots of team socials that you could get involved in.
Skills
I developed my presentational and communicative skills, alongside becoming far more competent with Excel.
Responsibilities
Most of my work was at the 'do-er' level, so there was not much responsibility because all worked would be checked before being sent out to clients.
Support & Guidance
There was lots of support and guidance, with each intern given there own mentor and supervisor. Additionally, everyone in both teams were very happy to answer any questions you might have.
Culture
The company atmosphere is very friendly and you really get to feel part of a team. The general culture really promotes a work-life balance- working hard for your hours and not working any later.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship and loved being part of a very supportive and friendly company. I always had good support and guidance, and the work was challenging but engaging.
Yes
Make sure that you understand the difference between the teams (investment and actuarial consulting). I initially assumed these would be very similar, but soon found out I was wrong!
