Overview
A hybrid working role in which I helped the environment team meet weekly deadlines. This involved carrying out tasks for multiple projects simultaneously and having effective communication with colleagues.
Skills
I have developed my researching skills, interpersonal skills, organisational skills, networking skills and time management skills
Responsibilities
At the beginning I wasn’t given that much responsibility. However, after learning about the projects, sitting in meetings and understanding the companies working culture, I did get more responsibilities and individual tasks given to me.
Support & Guidance
I did not receive that much guidance as a lot of people worked from home or were on annual leave. However, the people I had spoken to and networked with were very supportive and guided me throughout this experience.
Culture
The atmosphere at Buro Happold is very relaxed and friendly. Everyone is very helpful and are always happy to help you with any concerns or questions. The open plan office enables you to talk to individuals from different departments so you get to speak to a range of people .
Your Impressions
I enjoyed learning about the corporate culture of a consultancy firm. As a Muslim, I felt quite excluded from the environment at the office. However it was a great chance to develop my skills and meet new people.
Yes
Develop your time management skills and avoid procrastination as there is little to no micro-management. There is less structure within the firm which can be frustrating so you need to be able to step up and take responsibility for your work. Collaboration is a big part of Buro Happold’s work culture so being able to work in a team is crucial!
