Overview
On a day-to-day basis I worked on my intern project using SQL to investigate various hypotheses. I had the opportunity to speak with colleagues across the business to help me better understand the context of my project, with the goal of presenting my recommendations at the end of the 10 week internship.
Skills
The most valuable skill I have learnt and improved has been how to effectively problem solve. I have also learnt how to use SQL to a proficient standard and integration of SQL with Python. Finally I have gained valuable insights into the lending industry.
Responsibilities
Yes. Significant responsibility taking ownership of a project driving real business impact.
Support & Guidance
Plenty, I was assigned a buddy, mentor, and manager, all who were extremely patient, supportive, and looking to help me learn.
Culture
Fantastic. The culture works very well at Capital One. Everyone is very friendly and open to questions looking to help you learn wherever possible. The teams all seem to work very well together and the managers make sure to make everyone feel included. Respect was earned through deliverables, rather than through an unnecessary amount of bureaucracy which I liked also.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed the internship. I feel like I have met a lot of well rounded people who I would genuinely look to work with in the future. This internship has kick started my career.
Yes
Prepare well and be yourself. The company highly values a desire to learn and improve so make that clear throughout your application and in the interviews also.
