Overview
Picking up smaller tasks including transfer values, formatting spreadsheets, checking input values and drafting emails, along with working on an individual project and a group intern project which was to be completed over the 8 weeks.
Skills
yes, definitely! i've been able to improve my excel skills a lot over the summer, in terms of general use, the excel commands and the use of the company specific formulas. My communication skills are also much improved from speaking with others in the office, asking for help and from presenting my project at the end on the internship.
Responsibilities
Yeah, i was responsible for creating an excel calculator that was required (this was my intern project).
Support & Guidance
Lots, along with background training that was provided in the first couple of weeks, whenever i had a question either about the theory of something or a task i was doing anyone in the team would sit and go over it with me until i understood.
Culture
It was very friendly, there was always people to sit with at lunch, chat with in the coffee breaks along with multiple socials in the evening. It was also very apparent that you will always have someone to ask if you don't understand something.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hymans Robertson, from being in the office, to seeing what actuaries actually do and meeting lots of new people.
