The Role
I thought it was excellent with the only problem being that it was a summer placement which is Audit's quiet period therefore there wasn't always a lot of work to do.
I was really surprised at how helpful and kind everyone was. They really valued you being there and really wanted to make your experience the best ever.
They were always there to help me, I never felt like I couldn't ask someone a question if I was struggling with work.
I really wasn't that busy that much. I prefer to be working constantly however there were times when I really had to go about finding things to do.
They trusted me a lot! Obviously in Audit the manager double-checks every you do anyways but I was able to do a lot that Audit Juniors would typically do.
In my University degree I felt that having that practical experience in Accounts really helped my third year. I underwent a significant amount of training too which helped me understand things outside my course, and I thought I had a greater understanding when reading the financial sections of newspapers.
The Company
I worked out of the office for most of the time. There were events to bring offices and employees together though which really helped make the experience more worthwhile.
There were 3 interns in my office and this was a little bit too much because there wasn't much work for us. When there was more work it was great though.
We spent three days in the south training and then two days in the north training. This was a lot considering it was only a 6 week placement. Furthermore they were constantly assisting you with training on the job.
Company Parties/Events
If you do well then they are very keen to offer you a graduate job as they have invested so many resources in you.
The Culture
A group task set during the internship where you had to work with other interns across different offices really helped to socialise. We had two days, one in the fourth week and one in the sixth, where we all got together to work on the project and went for drinks after. They really try to ensure you interact with your colleagues!
I lived at home during the time so it was fine. Sometimes pwc would subsidise the social events so it was never really that expensive.
Newcastle - enough said.
There were charity events and end of work drinks but there wasn't many opportunities to get involved in. It really depends on when you are there though and sometimes it is busier in different offices.
