Overview
The A&O First scheme is the most in-depth and blatant exposure I have had to the work of a commercial solicitor. The two day scheme involved talks from a variety of teams from a variety of roles and positions within the firm. The networking opportunities provided allowed me to keenly get to know other like-minded individuals on the scheme. My greatest takeaway from this opportunity was the general culture of the firm. I learned a great deal about the social side of the firm, the diversity and inclusion work of the firm, painting a picture of a firm that cares about both clients and employees.
Skills
This experience widened my understanding of the work of a commercial solicitor, demonstrating the day-to-day work completed and the high standard to which this was done at the firm.
Responsibilities
Yes - I was tasked with doing a client brief for a trainee, a piece of work that was used in a team meeting and sent on to a client
Support & Guidance
A lot, and even since finishing, I have had regular contact from the team about returning events and application details for the future
Culture
Very inclusive - everyone felt valued equally throughout the clearly hierarchical system which was nice to see
Your Impressions
