Overview
My role as an intern in global data analytics was to not only learn the workflows on the team but focus on an internship project assigned to me. The project was deliverable in python and since I had no python background, they gave me all the learning resources and help required to do it. I had to deliver a tool that created a dashboard and also perform a statistical analysis. The schedule on a day-to-day basis looked really different every week. In the beginning we had a lot of training session where we were introduced to the different asset classes and moving forward, we had more time with the project assigned to each person. We had session with Team leaders and managers all along on different topics and also several D&I sessions to get to know the company better. We also had several networking session in and outside of work which was amazing.
Skills
YES, of course. I think the most incredible part of this internship for me was that I got to learn a hard skill which was coding in the language python. It was really useful that I got to learn and apply it together. I also learnt networking and communication skills in a business environment. I got an opportunity to work on my presentation skills and improved significantly from my mid-term presentation to the final one. I also understood how important and essential it is to be a part of such a fast pace work environment. I enjoyed the excitement of the steep learning curve that I had. Lastly, a really important skill I learnt was independent decision making and taking ownership of my project.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given complete authority and was allowed to shape my project as I wanted to. I am responsible and accountable for the results but i was given a lot of freedom to explore, go outside the box and even make mistakes in a safe environment.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance from my team. I was a part of the tech training of the team which really helped me. The resources provided by them were extremely useful. I got a lot of help along the way from my team members who worked with me to explore different aspects of the data and help me understand their workflows better. I got a lot of moral support and help from the intern coordinators and other people I interacted with, including the intern cohort.
Culture
It is extremely open and friendly. We could reach out to our manager's manager's manager and they would always be up for a coffee catch up. It is extremely inclusive and I have never met such a diverse group of people. Just within the interns, there are different from all parts of the world which is a great exposure for everyone :)
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved my internship. There was always so much to learn and explore. I think it is truly the best student employer.
