Overview
Learning about finance (around 50% of the internship), helping international clients with their terminal workflows and pitching functionality to clients, making sure they are using the terminal's full potential
Skills
training across asset classes, lots of new knowledge about finance. Confidence and client interaction (sales skills). Teamwork and collaboration across departments
Responsibilities
Lots of responsibility - was given the chance to call and interact with clients who were working in very high up positions in the firm. CEOs, COOs, MDs of smaller banks/ asset managers across emerging markets (my department). Definitely trusted to uphold Bloomberg's image even early in the internship.
Support & Guidance
Lots. Had a connector mentor from another department who guided me and built a network around me of supporting people - alongside a mentor for sales, a mentor for analytics, a manager for sales and a team leader for analytics. Later on any employee would happily take on the mentor role unofficially
Culture
Very collaborative - everyone open and willing to chat over a problem with you. At no point did anyone decline a catch up (which were very common), even senior people trusted me with tasks that were high priority and had to be done well. Lots of support, trust, encouragement and challenge
Your Impressions
was very fun, both socially and professionally - the other interns made it for me personally, very friendly, international, supportive and interesting people all round
Yes
Focus on your ability to collaborate and work with other effectively, as well as you confidence and how well you can represent yourself in a client facing role
