    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Global Data department is divided into multiple sub-teams based on different asset classes and the datasets that they look after. My day-to-day role as an intern involved attending morning hurdles with the intern coordinators, where we got to touch base on the activities scheduled for the day and what was expected from us. I would also have extended blocks of time to work on my summer project. The internship coordinators planned and enriching program for us, whereby in addition to working on the project, we also got to attend various sessions, such as roundtables with managers, fireside chats with business leaders as well as team leaders.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes- My project was machine-learning based, I got to learn NLP concepts and to implement them in my project. I also learnt how to build a stellar profile on LinkedIn, how to network meaningfully and the value that there is in collaboration.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes- from the onset my mentor shared a project brief with me that gave an overview of what was expected of me. It was highly encouraged to bring on new ideas and to share them with the team with the aim of adding more value to the project. I was keen on exploring a proprietary tool that I knew would be impactful to the team, and got to collaborate with multiple stakeholders from different offices and teams in order to gain the insights I required to make the project a success.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of support- I was assigned a project mentor and buddy within the team, who were always ready to answer my questions, as well as to review my work and share feedback in a timely manner. We also had fantastic intern coordinators who were always ready to help and guide us throughout the internship.
