Overview
Over the four weeks I was given the opportunity to visit a residential investment block an office block, and a retail store. Following the visits I was required to write a full valuation report. The report taught me many skills required in valuing a property and enabled me to learn about how different properties are valued depending on how they are occupied. HR organized different excursions for the interns to get to know not only what different sectors of real estate involve, but also have us an insight into what it is like to work at Savills from being a graduate to being the CEO
Skills
As a non-cognate student the Savills summer scheme gave me an enormous opportunity to learn new skills. The head of my team and my graduate mentor were very approachable and taught me a variety of skills required in valuations. These included calculating yields and the variety of different factors to consider when valuing a property.
Responsibilities
Yes, on my second day I was taken to a site to assist in the valuation and as soon as we arrived back in the office I was asked to write a valuation report for the site. I felt that being thrown into the deep end was a great way for me to learn and develop my skills. I loved this as it meant there was always something do.
Support & Guidance
The support I received during my internship was amazing. All of my team were so helpful and happy to explain anything I needed help with. The HR team also organized meetings with us to check in on our progress and ensure we were receiving the correct guidance.
Culture
At Savills there is a great company culture. Everyone gets on with one another and offers to support to anyone who needs it. I noticed that many older people I met had worked for the company for several years, which I believe is testament to the positive working atmosphere that the company creates.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the August Savills Summer Scheme as there was never a dull moment. Not only we're the other interns extremely friend, but even directors in the company genuinely appeared happy to help us. The HR team also organized different talks and events for us to introduce us to people outside of the team we were put in.
Yes
Know your stuff about the company and the industry. Demonstrate enthusiasm and keenness to work at Savills.
