The Role
It wasn't particularly challenging and there was a lot of downtime but then it was only an internship and therefore there is only a limited amount of stuff you can do.
I believe that my other colleagues valued me and valued my input.
I was given quite a lot of support from my supervisor and if I had any problems then I only had to ask for help.
Some days I was busier than others but I didn't have to push myself too hard to get the work done.
The work I was given to do was relevant and necessary however I did not feel like any of it would have a major impact.
I believe that the communications skills I developed and the experience working in a real engineering firm was very valuable but I did not gain anything that would assist me in my degree.
The Company
It was ok, people were focused on their work but would always be willing to talk.
It was well organised, with exact placements already set up before you got there and it ran pretty smoothly.
I would say that the internship was more about gaining experience in an engineering working environment rather than developing skills. There is only so much the company can invest in you in a short space of time.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I believe that I would work for them again as I believe a graduate placement would offer a lot more and that being there for a longer period of time would allow you to have a much greater input.
The Culture
All of the interns met up during lunch time and we often socialised outside of work too.
The cost was pretty average for most parts of the county.
There was quite a lot to do but it was Stevenage so not exactly the life and soul of the country.
I didn't come across any but I know some of my colleagues did.
