Overview
The work of a Summer Intern on a day-to-day basis involves working alongside Analyst and Associates to support them on the work required for both execution tasks and pitching material for M&A, IPO, capital raises ect for clients. In addition, the intern will contribute to the update of internal databases and marketing materials to be used with clients.
Skills
My internship at JP Morgnan was instrumental in improving my analytical and technical skills as well as allowing me to develop the ability to handle the pressure of working under tight deadlines while being able to maintain the highest possible quality of delivery.
Responsibilities
Personally, I think the biggest form of responsibility I was granted during my internship was the increasing autonomy in managing my assigned tasks. This type of work is not rocket science, but the deadlines are extremely tight and it is extremely important to meet them, so having autonomy in this respect denotes trust both from the team and from those who are more senior to you.
Support & Guidance
A buddy and a senior mentor are assigned during the internship. The former can be asked any kind of question about work and non-work, while the latter is always available to sit down and have a coffee to talk about one's work goals and career advancement.
Culture
As far as the DI team is concerned, I have found a lot of helpfulness and patience from everyone where everyone is very willing to carve out their own time to explain concepts to you when they perceive interest. The team is also extremely united, often organising team drinks and events to bond the group.
Your Impressions
I found my experience to be extremely positive and enriched me a lot from both a personal and a business point of view.
Yes
In my opinion the keys to at least have a chance to succeed during the application proces to JPM is to have clean and well formatted CV and cover letter and to show confidence and curiosity during the hirevue. Once you are at the assesment centre is all in your hands and what you have done to arrive well prepared for it.
