Overview
I developed C++ code on a daily basis, working on Fusion 360. Daily scrum meetings were a part of my role. This was all done under the guidance of a senior member of team.
Skills
I've learnt C++ and gained a strong familiarity with git, Visual studio, and scrum.
Responsibilities
We were given autonomy over our own code. This went through code reviews and things were rectified to be fitted to coding standards. Other than that, we were given a lot of responsibility over ourselves. We didn't have anyone breathing down our shoulders which was lovely.
Support & Guidance
We received a lot of support from multiple figures. Autodesk seemed to be especially keen on maintaining their interns' mental health. We were given multiple people we could contact if we ever had concerns/ felt uncomfortable about anyhting. We also received lots of help when we were stuck with a particularly difficult part of our projects, which helped greatly.
Culture
The culture was amazing. I didn't think much about it going in but you could really tell that everyone wanted you to be comfortable and happy there. I didn't meet a single person who I disliked there. The atmosphere was very relaxed and chill. I could work and/or socialise however I wanted.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed this placement far more than I expected. Admittedly, the bar was low to begin with, but I eventually found this to be a genuinely fun way to spend my summer. The people at Autodesk really made it a fun experience, from our team members, to the managers.
Yes
The interview is more relaxed than you think. The first 2 weeks of training are soul-draining but after that it's a great time. Hanging out with other interns is also very fun.
