Overview
I work as a software engineer creating new features and also dealing with requests for current bugs/issues. I have meetings under the Agile framework with my team. I communicate with other engineers and ask for help in the wider engineering community.
Skills
Yes. I have learnt a lot about designing large scale systems and how to use a range of technologies such as Docker, PostgreSQL, WSL
Responsibilities
Yes. I was given full ownership of a project that the team wants to use in production. I was able to ask my team for help quite often, but I also needed to ask people outside of my team, and also undertake my own research online to solve problems.
Support & Guidance
I had a designated mentor who was available for me to direct questions to, however I felt able to ask questions to all of my team, including my team lead. I had fortnightly meetings with my team lead to discuss my progress and feelings about the internship. I was also able to benefit from the experience of the entire company by asking questions to other teams and experts.
Culture
I always felt like I could ask questions to anyone, and everyone was very happy to help me. Everyone I talked to (in- and out- side of my team) were very friendly, and I hope to keep in touch with a lot of people I have met.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot - it was very different to what I had studied at university, so the learning curve was quite steep, but I was well supported and have improved massively. The friendly culture of the company also made me feel welcomed. We had some really nice intern events as well which were a lot of fun.
Yes
Feel free to ask your recruiter extra questions you may have to help you prepare for the interviews.
