Overview
My role is called business development and involves striving to bring in business for the company in a variety of different ways. One part of my job is marketing through various channels such as social media, or cold calling. I usually try to post relevant events happening around NTAR. Analytics is another big part of my job where I will often analyse data from things like the social media channels or apprentice numbers over time and attempt to decipher what we can do to improve those numbers and what we are doing well at the moment.
Skills
I believe over the course of my placement so far I have largely increased my Microsoft office skills as I have had to use the software in ways which I haven’t had to before. I find this especially with excel where I regularly have to compline data in there and format it in a way that is easy to understand. Additionally, this placement pushes me to develop soft skills such as communication or quick thinking.
Responsibilities
I believe I have received a decent amount of responsibility taking in this Internship. For instance I have full control over the social media (within NTARs guidelines of course), and I am tasked with making many documents that are used all throughout the business. For instance on my first day I was tasked with making a diagram depicting what apprenticeship courses were like, after my first month I then saw this diagram I created within a contract given to an external company to sign.
Support & Guidance
I have received an adamant amount of support throughout my placement. My line manager always ensures that I am feeling okay in my role and I know what I’m doing. As well as this, he offered to provide me with additional training if I felt I was struggling in an area. Furthermore, all the staff in the building feel approachable and will help you if you need it. Last week one of the previous interns started working here as a graduate, this was also very helpful as it was nice to talk with someone who had went through the same experience I had.
Culture
The company atmosphere in general is very supportive, from your very first day where you are doing your induction training you can tell that you are in a company which cares about its people and wants to promote a diverse, kind, and progressive working culture. For instance the importance the company placed on sustainability feels very positive. Inside the office everyone is very approachable and will help you if you feel as if you are stuck with something.
Your Impressions
Although I am still in my internship I am enjoying it very much at the moment. Although there can be some boring moments where you are sat at your compacted chipping away at an endless excel file the overall experience has been very positive in teaching me what a workplace is like. As well as this I have got to further explore my chosen career path by seeing how experienced staff operate, as well as staff in completely different areas.
Yes
Make sure you’ve got a very good CV showing off your best and most useful experiences. Make sure you write a good cover letter and show your passion towards the company, my cover letter is one of the things which made me really stand out among other candidates. Don’t stress about the online tests too much, I thought I did awful at them. Just try your best and you never know what may happen. And research the company before the interview. They like when you have done your research.
