Overview
As an engineering intern I was matched to a team and a project for the duration of my internship, and worked on the project from the beginning design and analysis stages to implementing and finally deploying it in production. Day-to-day my role involved attending daily standup, working on my assigned tasks for the project and talking with my mentor and other team members to get help and advice.
Skills
I've learnt many new skills during my internship, both technical and "soft". On the technical side I've been exposed to how software is designed and implemented at a large scale, gained proficiency with a new programming language, and been taught about the general infrastructure at a large tech company. I've developed professional skills such as communication when speaking in meetings and and working with team members.
Responsibilities
Yes, lots. I had team members on hand to help and guide me, but overall I was responsible for completing my tasks and had real ownership of my project.
Support & Guidance
As much as I needed; team members were always available to help and very friendly, however over the internship I was able to start working more indepdently as I gained more familiarity with the tools and systems I was using.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere at Bloomberg is very friendly. From the very beginning I was made to feel like a normal member of my team and treated equally, with my ideas being considered as seriously as anyone else's.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship immensely and cannot recommend the experience enough.
Yes
There are four interview rounds, three of which are technical (two coding, one system design) so it's important to be confident with your technical skills before applying.
