    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was working in shopper marketing on shippers that go into store. It is a fast paced role that involves working with multiple teams, including supply, brand and account managers to get these shippers into store. I brief the artwork into designers, manage the amends from brand and retailers and communicate with printers to ensure they get to the right place at the right time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many new things in this role! Not only have my basic project management and communication skills improved massively but I have also managed to develop and use performance marketing skills that I learnt and used in off-site media campaigns with Ocado. I also developed some great negotiation skills by partaking in courses being offered and following up with account managers. It has been a great chance to develop.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given so much responsibility right from the beginning so you do get thrown in to it but it is fantastic! I was solely responsible for thousands of shippers that are in stores right now as well as online campaigns on facebook and instagram. It was amazing to be give so much responsibility and does so much for your confidence. You really are treated like a real worker and not just an intern.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received such great support and guidance throughout my placement. My line manager was so supportive and helped me to grow and develop throughout my time with Unilever. No question was ever too silly for her and she always dropped what she was doing to help me. Beyond my line manager, everyone is so willing to help or let you get involved in projects they are doing. The culture fosters support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It is very much like a family working for a common goal, purpose really does fuel the decisions made here, so when you make your decisions with the want to make the shopper, community, planet and Unilever better off, you know that other people are too and it unites everyone to fight for the same thing. It is exactly that which make Unilever different and what makes a huge company feel like a family.

  • It has been an absolutely fantastic experience and I loved all of it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

  • Just be yourself. Everyone here is authentically themselves and brings something different to the table. Work from your purpose everyday and you will always make the right decision and most of all, just get stuck in! You can never go wrong doing that.
