Overview
I worked in small project teams with analysts, associates and seniors, working to advise clients on potential M&A opportunities, defence considerations and refinancing proposals. I was involved in making slides to prepare pitchbooks to share with clients, updating financial charts using FactSet and CFIT, as well as Excel valuation analysis such as buy-in analysis.
Skills
I have improved my Microsoft office skills in both Excel and PowerPoint, including becoming more familiar with several shortcuts. I improved interpersonal skills through working with other members of the team from analysts up to managing directors. I improved time management skills by communicating with people I am working with on my capacity, prioritising tasks suitable and working efficiently to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given responsabiity to update pitch books from comments from seniors, to make notes on client calls, to correctly update charts, to review due diligence reports, to draft emails to send to clients on the corporate broking side
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support, particularly from my buddy who was an analyst in my team . I also felt the support of my fellow interns as we helped each other on tasks for our case study summer project. Several members of team gave me excellent guidance and help throughout my internship and were willing to give up their time to do so.
Culture
The culture was excellent and better than I expected. I did not feel pressured to work very long hours by those I was working with and Friday evenings and protected weekends were received throughout. All of the team were very welcoming and supportive and made the effort to get to know me.
Your Impressions
I had a very positive internship experience thanks to the friendly and welcoming culture in my team and the excellent organisation of the intern programme and my case study project
Yes
Apply early! I would say not to worry if not from a finance background or you feel unprepared with regards to technical skills. You will not be expected to have any technical skills in the interview or when you start. It is most important to be yourself, be keen and show a desire to learn and your team will want to work with you in the future.
