    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was a software engineer in a DevTools team. My daily jobs include coding for my project, helping out teammates by pairing, attending stand-ups and other meetings, regular demos to everyone around the office for feedback and do retrospective and reflection on the work completed.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given much responsibility during my internship. My project content is confidential so I can't go into details here, but my project was of real enterprise value, which means not only the UK but also the US is interested in the project. My team has carried on from what I've made a start for.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I got plenty of support and guidance throughout my internship. Everyone including my manager in my team was really friendly and helpful and I could also get support from the intern program team.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and atmosphere in the workspace was really good. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We worked hard and played hard. There were never any strict deadlnes for any task, but everyone can still manage all the tasks really well. Another thing worth mentioning is the diversity. There are people from all backgrounds, cultures. The company was really inclusive to all groups such as LGBTQ+ groups and feminism groups.

  • I enjoyed my internship very much. I enjoyed working here, making some real value contribution to the enterprise. I also enjoyed all the social events, including team fun day and festivals and made friends with some colleagues.

  • Just be yourself. There's nothing to panic about if you have the right amount of technical skills and good at communication and team work. It will bee an invaluable experience.
