Overview
It's very difficult to give an overview of a role that is different every week but to summarise. My role would consist of me doing shoots for Gymshark to aline to any brief sent my way. The goal would be to achieve work that can be used on Gymshark platforms for the selected purpose. This would sometimes be for athletes' socials, for e-commerce, for our fitness app, and many many more.
Skills
I've learnt so many new skills its unfathomable. Throughout this year I've furthered my abilities within photography to a point that I didn't see possible over such a short period of time. Due to Gymshark putting you in the deep end by working for a multi-billion dollar company, its very important to get the very best work possible which definitely pushed me to learn more skills and develop all my old ones.
Responsibilities
I was given so much responsibility during this year! At the start of the year, my manager told me that there wasn't going to be any spoon-feeding this year and it was down to me to determine how far I go. Due to this, it pushed me to go outside my comfort zone and really try to become a staple in the company. This then lead on to many opportunities and a big responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I got a lot of support during the year. My manager was very supportive and by trying to encourage me to seek out answers to questions from specialists across the company it made sure I had a wide variety of people to speak to if I needed help. This along side my team meant I had every bit of help that I needed!
Culture
Over the year of my placement in all honesty it changed a lot. When I first started at the company the culture felt more like a family, but as the year went on and events occurred such as the restructure it started to change. Due to this, the atmosphere at work became very different as people were worried about their jobs (rightfully) and I think the mood in the office was very different.
Your Impressions
I thuroughly enjoyed my placement and I can happily say that it was probably the best year of my life. The memories over this year with all of my colleagues and now friends will stay with me forever. Not only that but every day it didn't feel like I was going to work which was like a dream.
Yes
Gymshark taught me so much and taught me more than a university could ever teach. I would highly recommend people apply and the advice I would give is to take every opportunity when working there as everything you do opens a new door. Make the most out of it!
