Overview
Support and learn the manufacturing process through asset management.
Skills
Time management, interpersonal skills, stakeholder value management.
Responsibilities
Yes, but I was also given time to learn and take in the process of steel making as it is new to most people who enter the industry and can take some time to understand the scale of it.
Support & Guidance
I had a mentor who was extremely helpful. Then a line manager who was easy to talk to and supported me greatly, I was also surrounded by experts in their field so if I needed support from someone on something specific then there was always someone there to talk to about it.
Culture
The company is focussed on safety of its people and the production of quality cost-effective tonnes of steel and the people of TATA strive towards this. The people of TATA were nice in general and I have made friends with a lot of my colleagues. Staff dos are a particularly fun part of working for TATA.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement and I would recommend anyone to work for TATA if you enjoy engineering or business, it gives you a good footing in both of those industries and I have learnt skills for life that are valued in any industry.
Yes
Watch a few videos on YouTube about steelmaking to get an overview of the process and then look at the supply chain that TATA Steel UK feed and you'll be surprised what you learn. If you're still interested after that then you'll enjoy working for TATA Steel.
