Summer Vacation Scheme Review

A typical day consisted of working within your chosen department and helping colleagues with real client work which was incredibly fascinating. It also involved various talks about RPC and topical legal issues to increase our knowledge and understanding. There was often networking with employees at the firm which allowed the chance to get to know more about the departments and nature of the work.

Participating in the vacation scheme enabled me to enhance various skills. For example, I was able to develop my written and oral communication skills through talking to colleagues and drafting work for clients. In addition, my time management skills were honed as I balanced all my work tasks alongside the extra activities such as talks and networking. Moreover, working in a group for a presentation was beneficial in refining teamwork and public speaking skills.

The various talks we had outside our department work were incredibly helpful in expanding my knowledge about RPC and the roles available. We also had numerous networking opportunities with various employees at different stages in their career which provided an insight into the roles at the firm.

I found the atmosphere very enjoyable - it seemed to be incredibly professional yet friendly and supportive. The culture is one of the main things that attracted me to RPC and spending two weeks in the firm cemented that this was somewhere I wanted to work.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I felt that the entire scheme was incredibly well designed and allowed vacation schemers to get the most out of the experience. The variety of activities and events during the two weeks provided an amazing insight into RPC.

I would say to try and be yourself as much as possible both in your application and during the vacation scheme to determine if you are a good fit for the firm. Make sure you do your research about RPC and the legal industry in general to demonstrate knowledge in your application and interviews. Applying as early as possible whilst ensuring your application is strong is also a good idea.
