Overview
My role as a procurement buyer was to source and award contracts to winning contractors I would assist and lead tender query calls, evaluate the tender submissions and present gate calls to the managers and stakeholders I would also sense check the contracts and highlight any issues or potential risks
Skills
I have learnt how to become more confident, I have gained more analytical skills through evaluating the tender queries and submissions. I’ve gained technical skills through the various softwares used I have developed interpersonal skills and learnt how to relate with all types of people of different ages.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibilities, I had the opportunity in my second rotation to lead a tender call with assistance. I led very important gate call presentations and even calls with the stakeholders and contractors from the bidders I also had the opportunity to organise volunteering activities such as a teams away day There was always something for me to do and lead
Support & Guidance
I was very supported throughout my placement, it’s something National Grid are great at! I would have weekly calls with my line manager and was also given a buddy and a business coordinator who I had biweekly calls with, they always helped me and gave me advice whenever I needed it My line manager would always show me where to find extra information when I needed help
Culture
The company culture is very warm and welcoming, even if you don’t work in the same department there’s always someone smiling and saying hi to you. It’s an enjoyable culture and atmosphere to work in
Your Impressions
My placement was enjoyable, I was happy I was given a lot of opportunities and trusted to work on projects, I felt more like an employer than just a placement student My time on placement gave me a genuine insight into the work industry and how to navigate through different challenges
