Overview
The virtual early career event provided us with an excellent opportunity to learn the the daily life at Lloyds banking group, especially the technology department. The early career team invited a lot of experienced guest speakers, introducing the historical background and future development plan. It is also an amazing opportunity to network with students from all over the world, and cooperated in group projects and hackathon. In a word, I would like to recommend to anyone who wants to get their first work experience by applying to the early career event at Lloyds banking group.
Skills
Because it’s a technology event, I got thorough trainings in technology, data science and financial markets. For example, we’ve got a guest speaker introducing the data-driven strategy and how they use models to evaluate customers credit. And my python skills are also improved. The group project is super exciting and we came up with many innovative ideas by working together. And there are also many trainings of soft skills, like communication, networking and so on.
Business Insight
Because it’s an early career event, it’s aiming to help us figure out which industry we are most interested in. So the early career team also invited many guest speakers to share their insights into their own department, like data science, customer service and engineering. After these speeches, we learned the core skills of these positions so that we can prepare for these jobs in the next few year’s studies. And in the networking session, we also got the firsthand information about position openings and potential opportunities based on company’s strategy.
Culture
Lloyds banking group has a inclusive and diverse culture and it’s welcoming candidates from all over the world. Compared with the old-school and conservative culture in the banking industry, Lloyds banking group has super lively and open minded atmosphere. It’s encouraging innovation and collaboration, so it’s growing really fast in the digital transition. The culture is excellent for technologists because they can dive into their projects without too many distractions. So I would like to recommend Lloyds banking group from the culture perspective
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the virtual internship because it was well organised. I met students from all over the world and many guest speakers from Lloyd banking group. I can tell everyone enjoyed their work by their speech. They are all super energetic! And I love the trainings, which combined the theories and real projects. And the trainings covered both soft skills and technical skills, so they are quite intense and challenging. But they are really highlight of this virtual internship!
Yes
Just be yourself. Because Lloyds baking group is really inclusive and diverse so you don’t need to worry about the culture. And be prepared. Question yourself why you want to work in the technology department and why you want to work as an engineer. And also think about your career goal. And how to match your own career goal with the company’s purpose. And finally attend as many virtual events as possible (they are really helpful!)
