The Role
There were some difficulties, such as learning new techniques initially but eventually the work became easier.
Everyone was extremely helpful and welcoming. They would always invite me for tea/breaks and talk about any issues and help out if they could.
My supervisor, although busy, would always check in with me and we would have a weekly meeting where we would discuss my progress or difficulties over a cup of coffee.
Mostly a perfect balance, however towards the end of my placement I would find myself too busy.
I was in charge of a lot of experiments once my training had ceased. I was initially shadowed, to ensure my methods were right, other than that I was running the show.
Lab skills I gained will be useful for all my life. Other transferable skills such as good organisational skills, teamwork and clear communication will also always be useful.
The Company
Although busy, we would always have a good laugh.
Very well organised. The company is well esablished and always takes on interns so they were well organised.
Lots of training courses were available, should we be interested. Compulsary training comprised the first week of placement.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I enjoyed my time at the company but am considering further study.
The Culture
All the placement students had a great rapport. We would go out for drinks after work and invite each other over for parties.
There were very few pubs where I lived, so we would go to the nearest city after pay day!
There were 2-3 clubs but nothing particularly great, not to mention, expensive.
There were lots of opportunities, such as department sports teams, charity events and team building events.
