Overview
My role was to support the team that I was in, learn as much as I could about the department, and about Citi’s culture. I did this through joining team meetings, setting up Coffee chats with senior employees, and getting walkthroughs of different areas in Citi Operations. At the end I gave a presentation on a project I had worked on over the internship
Skills
I developed my analytical and communication skills through Excel and Python. Lots of my job revolved around customer data, and how I could extract info from it. This would then be used by the team or myself to do their daily jobs, or do draw up historical data charts and tables. I also got to learn more about Financial markets, Economics and Networking through Neueda training
Responsibilities
I was responsible for closing duplicate cases which reduced the workload for the whole department that I was in. I was also helping on Audit deliverables with my manager and team lead. There definitely was some responsibility given to me but nothing strenuous
Support & Guidance
There was fantastic support for anyone that wanted it. All the HR team were on hand to answer any questions that I had, as were my manager, team lead, and team. I also gained a valuable mentor through the D&I Network that I signed up to.
Culture
It was a personable and social culture that took their work seriously. They dealt with large amounts of money on a daily basis, but could still stop to chat and have lunch with you. I really liked the atmosphere at Citi
Your Impressions
It was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I made some really good friends from it. I’m pleased to be returning next year once I graduate
Yes
Get out of your comfort zone. Take the opportunity to network with talented professionals at Citi, and don’t be afraid to talk to Managing Directors (They’re usually the most up for a chat). Make an effort and it will come back to you ten fold
